Discussion of our current understanding of some of the major causes of preterm labor. Identification of patients at high risk for preterm labor. The short cervix, fetal fibronectin, bacterial vaginosis, the role of progesterone therapy and its risks are discussed and reviewed in detail. Dr. Boggess is an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
